Here you go - hope this helps. If you need any more student stats, let me
know. Generally, E-marketer, NUA and Jupiter are all good online research
sources and High Fliers is a great research agency specialising in student
research (no stats available online from them though)
Cheers

--------
The youth market forms a large sector of the internet. NUA predict there to
be 77 million under 18's online globally by 2005. Obviously, these are a key
user population, with their adoption of the Net essential to ensure its
future.
Entertainment products such as games, music, tickets and videos are the most
popular products with young consumers, due to their relatively low cost.
Jupiter Communications estimates that in the US, children and teenagers will
spend an estimated $1.3 billion online by 2002. Teenagers will account for
$1.2 billion of the total spending in this sector.
A recent report from NOP Research estimates that teenagers and children
account for almost one third of the British Internet audience. 46% of these
have shopped online, while 17% have already made an online purchase .
Students, who form 1/3 of the UK youth market (according to DfE figures,
1998, there are 6,705,000 people aged 16-24 in the UK, of which 198,000 are
full time students and a further 928000 are part time students) are also
keen internet users. A study in 1998 indicated that 97% of finalist
students use the internet, with 17% using it several times each day, 25%
once each day, 29% 2-3 times per week, 12% once per week, 7% once per
fortnight and 7% once per month or less. Of these, 12% use the internet for
buying products or services .
This is reflected in the US. Up to 90 percent of college students have
access to the Internet and repeatedly research has found that they are very
comfortable with new technology and the idea of buying online. Forrester
Research found that the college demographic is a particularly valuable one
for online marketers. The average student spent nearly $329 on books, CDs,
travel and computers in the first six months of this year. .

Does anyone know of site(s) where I can pick up stats on how much the
student pop. uses the internet? Stuff like How many go online, how often,
for what purpose, what % spend and how much they spend and on what. I'd
really appreciate any pointers.
Thanks Roger Doddy
