Hi Justine
I have only recently joined the ranks of ADSL. The installation was with BT,
the BT guy was great, re wired all that needed to be done. The line test was
completed and they even called me to make sure I was happy with the
installation! The USB device looks like a very sick (greeny blue) stingray,
but dead easy to set up, insert CD load about 3 drivers, then attach afore
mention stingray, and off you go.
The 24/7 feeling is great and I have had only 2 bad problems, mail server
down for about 2 hours, and USB enabled connections, down for about half
day.
Overall the service seems great, and it's so nice when downloading huge
files, nothing better than seeing 60-80k per sec transfer!
Overall, I think it's a good deal, although if you are used to work from a
2mb leased line, it will make no difference.
I also looked at several providers, and it seemed to come down to contention
(how people you share with) and static or dynamic IP, at present BT do not
support Static IP, but if you need that Nildram are pretty good.
If you are Mac based BT and most others do not support or even say it's
possible, but I think with a little playing you could get it to work, just
the same as you can use modem sharing on PC to share a single connection.
I hope this gives some idea, any thing else just mail.
Best
cliff
