Sorry, I've been off on a well-earned break - in response to 7 days of
discussion that I really wish I had been here for, I would just like to say:
- Regarding companies who claim to be able to get you to the top of the
search engines:
They usually mean they can get you a top result for the search query
"uniquebrandname".
- Regarding agencies that tout a list of online marketing buzzwords without
any indication of philospohy or methodology:
Yesterday I nailed a propellor to the side of my house - it is now
officially an aeroplane.
- Regarding Viral Marketing:
Something that propogates naturally, usually as a result of the quality
and/or appeal of the offering itself is purely viral - though sometimes
(especially on the web) the *way* it is offered plays a very big part.
Anything that involves crap like 'acquaintance spam' is more like chemical
warfare.
- Regarding 'alternatives':
Successful marketing, online or otherwise, starts with the conception of a
good product and ends with the consumer's (hopefully ongoing) happiness.
There is no alternative.
