Subject: UKNM: An advertising lesson from America?

I don't know if any of you saw the interesting Panorama documentary on the
US elections last night? It appears that one of the ways in which US
candidates advertise is by employing a computer to phone up voters and then
automatically play them a 40 second recorded commercial!

So you pick up the phone and get "Hello, vote for Al Gore, George W
wants to tax your children ..."

Talk about invasion of privacy!

But could it work in the UK? I assume that they only do this in the US
because it shows some degree of success. Does this scare you?

Don't worry, I'm not planning to start it, but thought it might be of
interest to know how low some advertisers are prepared to stoop.
