Andy: Here are some stats, they may help you in what seems to be a painful decision...
44% of net users in the UK are under 30
The median age of the UK user is 32
11% of users are over 50
69% are male...that surprised me somewhat...not - (re: XXX!)
30% have a bachelor's degree
62% are full-time employees
18% are IT professinals, 10% are business pros
Small office/Home office users are only 9%
Nearly 1/3 net users in the UK live in London
47% access from home
Email and business apps make 50% of primary activity
Cost of access is single biggest concern

This concludes that: the typical UK Internet user is 32, well educated, working fulltime, likely in an IT related field for a large corporation, earns more than average and possible drinks like a fish...just a joke...

Couple this with approx. 10-11 million users (early 99 quote) in the UK (and growing) and I feel that the *opposition* is right - there are still many out there that need to know wassup...even if it is in a fluffy editorial style...more women are getting online as are wider demographic segments such as older people etc...thus...dont assume anything...provide everything :)
