I think it might go back a lot further than that. The US in the 1920's with
the baseball cards in the gum packs. They bought the gum got the cards and
then the gum was bought just to get the cards. This is the earliest viral
campaign I can think of. I am not sure though if anyone has forgot about the
cards you used to get in the packs of tea? I have no idea when they started
may have even been before the 1920's. Viral marketing is a new name on an
old idea. Now baseball cards are sold without the gum and can anyone say
Pokemon for me?
