I seem to remember a primary school genetic selection experiment where you
cross breed two types of pea. The one being small, shrivelled and sweet, the
other being big, shiny and tasteless - but infinitely more marketable of
course.
JB Writes:
It reminds me of a great anecdote about a professor who received a letter
from a model in the sixties who said that she hadn't found the right man in
her life, but desperately wanted a child. She had searched the UK and was
convinced that this professor's intellect, coupled with her good looks would
be a perfect combination.
The professor wrote back, turning her down with this 'warning' - "your
proposal seems interesting, however have you considered what would happen if
your child had my looks and your intellect?".... she didn't get back to him.
Which also reminds me of what happened when they cross bred bees in South
America in the seventies/eighties - supposedly to get the best out of a
docile, but low output bee variety and an aggressive, high yield bee
variety..... Killer Bees anyone. Currently in South America, Central America
and heading North at about 30 miles a year (the Americans didn't quite build
their tests far enough away - should have taken the advice of the French -
re. Nuclear Testing!).
Cheers

P.S. Eddie Stobard is also a Christian. No-one has yet considered that this
may have had affect on his business - it may be useful to consider the
impact in dealing with someone where 'bottom line' is not the first point on
the agenda!
