ADVFN.com has one of the best active bulletin boards on the net. They have
such a value to their community that they even have a premium board that
thousands of the users pay for - now that's a well developed online
community.

Hi Chris,
There is nothing worse than a forum thats empty except for the odd moderator
welcome and comment!
Starting a new board can take some time to develop the community.
The best tip I have found to work is to feature comments from the board
prominently on the sites home page and newsletter. Look for Requests for
help or 'controversial' postings for this!
You will also find it's not uncommon for a board to be initiated by the
webmaster posting various messages using a variety of different email
addresses, but I'm not advocating such behaviour ;)
>From a marketing point of view, if you can create a busy active community
sharing ideas on your site then of course you have a greater chance to
impart your message or demonstrate your expertise in your field.
