I don't believe it will become redundant, not least of all because:

1) Too many people have already invested large sums in it, not least of all
Real, Madge.Web, AOL and many, many more, for it to disappear overnight.
2) The 'newer' new media platforms such as iTV and mobile phone companies
have taken interests in it as well - witness Real's deal with Nokia to
build the player into a new generation of phones, and Liberate (major iTV
set-top box software provider) signing up to use Real within their system,
