Although I prefer Illustrator (mainly because I've been using it since
version 88) I have to agree that Freehand is more designer-friendly. Being
able to change document sizes for each page - that you can have more than
one page! - better printing control... It's like having an illustration and
layout program in one. Still, I'm a fan of the Adobe interface (mostly since
it's familiar) and can't get used to the disimilarities between Macromedia's
products.
Coming from a print background (and working with print for 99% of my job) I
have to say that some of Freehand's complex filters fail to transfer to film
(transparency, etc). Of course, that's irrelevant in web design. It seems to
integrate more smoothly with Flash (though I have little problem bringing
work in from Illustrator and Photoshop). This is definitely a question of
preference.
