I would say that LiveMotion's audience is designers who cannot put up with
Flash's idiosyncrasies and rotten UI, but who want to do cool twitchy things
like everyone else. This is a large audience, and one that would not (at
first) have much use for ActionScript anyway.
You wouldn't believe how many talented print designers I talk to who can't
learn Flash. They've bought it, they've torn their hair out, they've given
up. There are "bookend" copies of Flash in many design studios. I'll bet
they can learn LiveMotion and will have the incentive to do so.
I'll root for Macromedia over Adobe any day of the week, but since I don't
think this spells death for Flash, I'm also looking forward to another tool
in the quiver :)
