Vectors aren't something a lot of OSen can comprehend any more. Since
the skin components of the remote have to be compatible with what
primitive-advanced system components can handle, they gots ter be
bitmaps.
In the guts of things, application development engines such as C++
(which was probably used to construct the remote) generally expect their
internal graphics to be bitmaps.
And even program icons are bitmaps, though you'd expect that a more
compressed format would be used on such a low level...
An idiosynracy of software creation, in other words.
Course you're right. Vector skins could be much cooler, at least in some
cases. ;)
