OK, not surprisingly my frustrated email produced a number of responses.
Most of these fall into the "it is a different package therefore not
surprising that I find some things that I can't do". I take that point - I
have experienced this before with packages such as quark/pagemaker and
freehand/illustrator. And I do realise that there are many things that
Flash does that Director could never dream of doing.
However, that is not what I am griping about. I *didn't* want an exact copy
of the director interface, but I did hope that the user interface was not
so restrictive. One of the few people to understand what I was getting at
added an example of her own - the inspector shows the settings/actions etc
but you can't edit them. Exactly what I am getting at - missed
opportunities abound.
And the reponses to my comment about not finding the help I hoped for on
the web - well if I missed the vital pages that answer my questions, please
send me the URL!
So, for those people who believe I should accept Flash for what it is, what
tips do you have for these following tasks that are irksome at the moment:
1) moving a selection of a larger animation.
2) selecting a whole column of frames at once.
3) Setting alpha to be zero on a number of items.
4) Keeping spot sounds in synch with action while maintaining a voiceover track
I'm waiting for the reply that tells me that I have missed some clever
shortcut that makes all the difference, but I expect some one is just going
to tell me that the only way to set properties to multiple items is to set
each of them individually. Fine for 1989. Not acceptable in 1999.
