i think it's to do with the plugin and mimetype arrays of the navigator
object in javascript. IE always uses empty arrays.

I'm not sure whether you've picked up from the prior conversations here
than IE/Mac will never tell JavaScript what plugins it can use...?

(iow, most JavaScript detection routines will give IE/Mac GIF or some other
content it knows it can handle. You can script it other ways, but IE/Mac
will never tell JavaScript "Yes, I can play Flash, give it to me!"... or
whatever it is that browsers tell scripts behind the scenes.... ;-)
