The mime problem is only related to this one because it also may cause
crashes. The reson for this is easy to establish and to explain:
A swf file is based on binary code. This code may contain certain
hexadecimal sequences such as the pair 0x0D 0x0A that will be
'translated' if the browser doesn't know that it's downloading a binary
file. Netscape gains this knowledge from what the server says about the
file. If no mime type is set for a particular extension then one of the
most probable settings is to treat it as a text file. This will cause
unwanted translation of some hex sequences and an almost certain crash.
As for the 'java crash', let's call it that, I can assure you that it
occurs with pages that contain only one flash movie even when all proper
settings such as swLiveConnect are set.
After JD's post the only new fact I established is that the movie has to
be in a play state while java is loading.
This matter is being followed up by Macromedia QA so we might be hearing
some more on this.
