If you're asking whether we can use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption,
then yes, Flash piggybacks upon the browser's encryption methods. If you
request an https: address then the browser usually negotiates this with the
server transparently.

(If you'll be relying on this then you might want to doublecheck IE/Mac...
as with other features, it implements SSL a bit differently than other
browsers.)

I'm not sure whether I'm close to what the client was talking about there,
though.
