Eric,
Apparently Drumbeat 2000 and Win2K together are best avoided.

I have Flash 4 on the Gateway equivalent to yours, and don't have any
problem. (Win2K 160Mb 15")
What resolution is it running at? Mine is at 1072 x 768, and is clear and
sharp (if a little small).

More info may help.

Paul,
I had the resolution set to 1400x1050 originally, I dropped it down to
1280x1024. I didn't have any problem with any other programs at 1400x1050
(except macromedia programs). It is a little better now at 1280x1024, but
the font is still wrong for some reason. For instance the text in the
property inspector in Dreamweaver 3.0 is not the font it should be. The one
I see is blocky and illegible. It is definitely a font problem because the
menus File, Edit, View, Insert, Modify look just fine, but the titles on the
tabs of the floating palettes such as HTML Styles, CSS Styles, Library
(still quoting Dreamweaver) are unintelligible. This is so frustrating.
Thanks in advance.
Eric Stewart
