I use a lot of the techniques you suggest. But some things, like faces
and skin tones have to start out as gifs, pngs, or jpegs or else you
really lose it. There is nothing in Flash to produce the rasterized
smoothness of such an image. I mean you can create cartoon like faces,
but nothing realistic.

After tracing a bit map and turning it into a vector... optimizing,
etc... the file size ... the images aren't as small as pure vectors, but
I don't see any way around it.
