FLASH: Flash 4 bible review-lengthy

So does it look any good?


Since it said look... I'll try to help with the caveat that I haven't

started through it yet.


It's the size of the standard Bible's so it's more extensive. It is rated

Beginner to Advanced so it has a sizable amount of information for the

beginner. (The first 192 pages are what should have been in the Flash manual

but we've been over that before.) One of the things they focus on are

keyboard shortcuts in the text which is good. On page 120, there's a nice

section on OnLine resources and I was amazed to find there were a few which

I had not previously bookmared.


One of the first nice tutorials is on making square outlines by our own

Dorian Nisinson. (Dorian has had a sex change to get into the book) She'll

know what I mean.


Part III of the book goes into Sound Planning. Some great information there

for those without a sound background. This is followed by a nice section on

Actions and then Tell Targets with a nice tutorial by Colin. Chapter 15 is

on Action Script. As with Flash 4 Magic and Creative Web Animation this is

probably where most of us will want to delve into and it looks quite good.

Next is a section on Generator which I haven't had the luxury of toying with

yet.


The book then goes into using Flash with other programs. There appears to be

numerous helpful areas to check out here including: Photoshop, Freehand,

Streamline.


The following chapter deals with external audio applications then 3D (which

appears fairly thorough)


Next is a section on Quicktime again it appears fairly thorough. This is

followed by Creating Full Motion Video with Flash which again appears to

cover all the bases.


Next chapter is on Broadcast Quality cartoons. Again looks good. Includes an

illustration of the basic phonemes (mouth shapes for various letters)


Final section is on displaying and publishing and is again what the manual

should have been.


Excellent book. All three of these are.
