sorry to bug you again but in your reply you wrote this

(assuming each site/unit is in its own movie clip
called mcUnitXX which has 2 frames one labelled 'sold' and one labelled
'unsold').




would mcUnit be the instance name of a generic movie clip repeated for
however many you needed. and numbered like this for example

mcUnit01
mcUnit02
mcUnit03
mcUnit04
