i got all excited when i red the question - i thought Natalia had made a
teriffic discovery.
unforntunately, i got results similar to Muzak -
PSD, 678 x 479 - imported, broken up, and resized to 50% ==> swf = 22k
same scenario, only resize first, then break apart ==>
swf = 22k
PNG, resized to 50% using export for web, then imported ==> swf = 7k
so, yeah - another vote for "what everyone has said along is still true" -
never, ever *down*-sample raster graphics inside Flash...

Flash, import it the size you want it to be.

a bitmap in Flash it still is 'connected' to the original

version is wrong I'm afraid.
