Actually, all software companies make their money on upgrades. The more
upgrades the better profit. Planned obsolescence is not far from the
philosophy used in the business of software. For instance, leaving bugs in a
program assures that the next release will be welcome. Anyone that has beta
tested will know (or should) this harsh reality. Its a balancing act with
what you can get away with regarding your customers. Understanding this will
give you a better perception of how the software market really works.
All other points are moot.
