Did you tell it to open the SWF with the Flash executable (Flash3.exe) or the Flash stand-alone player (SWFlsh32.exe)? If you import an SWF into the Flash editor it does what you describe. It may also do this if you open an SWF with the Flash editor when no other program is specified to open it ;-) If you want to view your movies as they'd appear in the stand-alone, you need to have them open with SWFlsh32.exe :) Check out your program associations, and see if that is the problem.
