For most graphic imaging, I would recommend Jasc's Paint Shop Pro 6.01.
It's kinda like Photoshop and Illustrator in one package:
-It can do raster and vector image manipulation.
-It supports every format under the sun (including PSDs)
-It has a slew of native plugins and filters, as well as support for every
plugin that's ever been made for Adobe (and any with a .8b* extension)
-It supports a HUGE color swatch (16 million I think, as opposed to
Photoshop's 256)
-It has very flexible tool controls (everything from solid, pattern, and
gradient fills to auto-feathering and anti-aliasing of vectors on creation)
-With a price tag of US $99, it can't be beat.
The only bad thing about it is that I think it's only available for the
Windows platform (but don't quote me on that)
And no, I'm not a Jasc rep, or associated with them in any way, I just think
that their product is the biggest graphical bang for the buck out there.
Check out the 30-day, full-featured demo at http://www.jasc.com
My $0.02,
Eric Dunham
