ok . . .
I have a new install of win98/ie5 - all flash sites work great.
data gets pulled from databases fine.
i then go visit a few "featured" sites that start demanding shockwave
installs and restarts . . . blah blah blah and now NONE of the
flash sites that were developed using databases pull the data.
i try them on all the other pc's in the office and they work fine.
its not the servers . . its definitely this workstation. something
from a shockwave install at another site, has messed up my flash 4
plugin! it still says its four. still has some four functionality,
but no data fram any database!
i can even uninstall every last flash and shockwave thing on the
computer from programs, active x components and registry entires.
let it auto insatll the active x on a return visit and boom,
the same thing. nada.
what is the holy name of batman is going on here? who can continue
to develop in this type of environment? does anyone have any input
that would solve this very annoying discouraging and purturbing
riddle?

Marc,
Here's the plan.
I would like to have some way of letting an MC know which frame another
MC
is on at any given time.
Why?: I will have a slider control consisting of mouse over buttons.
Each
button will go to a different MC of a sound track at differing volumes
(now
you see where I'm heading and you know I am going the absolute wrong way
about it!). Depending on the slider, I need to jump to a different
volume
MC at the exact frame as the previous MC playing. Theoretically, I
should
then be able to control volume. I would also need to include an MC that
knows which 'sound movie' (for example) is playing so that I could
control
the volume of any sound track that was playing at the time.
I just know this ain't the way to do this.
Thanks, of course in advance.
Any ideas greatly appreciated
Cheers
Shaun
