Flash does a good job of synching animation to sound when the sound sync
type is set to Stream.
Director has many additional features for controlling and polling sound.
For example, it allows you to control multiple sound tracks at once. It can
adjust relative volumes of sound tracks on the fly and it can poll how much
of a sound has played. Because Director has a more powerful graphics
display engine, it may be able to display more of the animation when
syncing to sound than does Flash (which will sometimes drop animation
frames to keep up), but I don't use Director regularly so I'm not as
certain about that.
