Subject: FLASH: Handling LOTS of strings (and thanks for prev. help
From: Ted Buson
Date: Thu, 11 Jan 2001 17:38:56 GMT

Hi,

BTW, thanks to everyone who helped with the localToGlobal question. It
really helped out.

My new question: I'm building a movie which is going to have a whole mess o'
strings, pairs actually, one being a date and one being the text for the
date. E.g.:

var1: May 12, 1940
var1t: Nothing happened on May 12, 1940.

Now, I'm probably going to have about 200 of these. My plan was to build a
container MC, which would load on frame 1, which would contain all of the
variables, like:

var1
var1t
var2
var2t...

etc all the way to...

var200
var200t

Some of the text could be a couple paragraphs long. Am I going to run into
any load time or playback problems with this much? Am I just being a
worrywart? Or is there a better way to do this, like having those variables
stored in an outside .txt file which would be accessed as needed? What's the
most efficient way to deal with this?

Thanks much,

Ted
