Dear David,
I want to thank you so very much for the slider .fla
I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.
There are a couple of things on it I still don't understand, so if I can't
figure it out, I will let you know.
I also want to tell you what I have come up with and see what you think.....

This is my very first thing done with Flash 3.
I spent a chunk of time figuring out what you did with the buttons, and then
slowly the lights started coming on ;-)
Ah-ha!!!!! What a HUGE difference from Flash 2
Then I had to figure out how to actually do the tell targets! Finally figured
out how I will do this at 3am bleech. Wasn't so bad. Saturday Night Live was a
riot, although I never imagined seeing Jimmy Page with Puff Daddy?????

Anyhow.... you have seen my interface for the colour lessons, I think...What I
will attempt to do is this....for example... for the lesson that works with
colour overlays, I have 12 sliders, one for each colour group and I want them
to be used simutaniously, (so that a person can load 10% yellow plus 20% orange
at the same time) so the slider box will be one .swf file containing the 12
sliders, then each colour disc wil be a separate .swf which will be called by
each slider using Load Movie and tell target. Since they will all load at 0%
transparency, they won't show up until the sliders are utilized.

I figure that if the basic colour box and main buttons are on level 1, then
each lesson can be loaded as movie lessons saving a chunk of movie levels for
each set, for example, movie levels 20 to 40 for the basic colour theory,
Levels 40 to 55 for the glazing lesson etc... or perhaps, I should always
unload lessons and go back to root level. Any feedback???

I think this will work, but I will have to play.

Anyhow, I am amazed at the added functionality that Flash 3 has. At first
glance you don't really realize how much more Tell Target and Load movie can
do, but I can forsee, not only a lot of added functionality, but also a lot of
saved loading time, by good planning, only having to load the main interface
once, and then working on chunk blocks within. There is probably tons I can't
see too.

Once again, thank you so much. Getting help from you guys is so much
inspiration. I can't wait till someone creates a Flash book that is worth
buying, not an expanded owner's manual, but a book that will teach some really
funky lessons and real world examples of Flash bliss. I for one, am willing to
pay a very good price for such a book. I find in many ways, many computer type
books lacking in this type of teaching method. I want a slew of examples of how
one might use tell target, masks, menus, layouts, not just one example of each
thing in a manner that I would never use but the whole gamma, I think a book
like this would sell very well. I would buy it if it were over $100.00 bucks if
it was worth it. I also understand it would be a huge undertaking, but
perhaps, a combined effort by some of the more experienced Flashers?? Like a
Flash 3 WOW! book (YES, YES, YES!!!!!)

Also, does anyone know of any good books that teach how to draw using a vector
drawing program? Example, good ways to draw objects, characteurs,
interfaces..... I would love to go back to school and get into design, but I
know my kids would lose a lot of me that way, so books and I, late at night get
a long very well. I can learn from books, anything I would be able to learn in
school.

Thanks again for the help and I look forward to the day when I can give help to
newbies as well.
