My company wanted to do the same thing for their intranet and WWW site.
We did some research and found that FileMaker by FileMaker, Inc.
(formerly Claris - www.filemaker.com) makes great database software and
has made it exceptionally easy to publish info to the Internet. A
couple of programs such as HomePage and NetObjects Fusion have made it
easy to build Web pages using CDML (Claris Database Markup Language)
which are the commands to interface with your database, or you could do
it by hand using tools that come with FileMaker. There is no CGI
scripting for FileMaker and it is available for Mac and Windows.
