The balance between load time and size of individual swf file is, for
me, the first factor I consider when deciding whether to make an
additional swf and do a load movie or a movie clip and do a Tell Target.
The other factor is how responsive I need the segment to be. If it needs
to have an immediate response, I use a movie clip within a swf. If it is
move navigational and the user would expect a bit of a lag, and then I
use a load movie with appropriate wait-for-frame animation.
I think of the structure as a written word metaphor. Movie clips are
sentences, scenes are paragraphs, loaded movies are chapters and the
main controlling movie is the book.
