Hi Christian,
I spent I don't know how many weeks reading the manual, surfing the web,
asking questions, losing hair, ripping hair getting thoroughly frustrated
and then....I started playing.
>From what I can tell so far, and I might be wrong BUT instead of using
another frame, use load movie command and then tell target to go where you
want to go within that movie. you can create blocks of any size and get
really creative using load movie, much more so than using frames, and you
would really only have the initial html plage to deal with and then deal
with loading new movies as long as all the movies are placed within the same
folder.
You can even go further and place movies within movies. What I am working on
now, is creating my colour wheel theory lessons. It is a movie and each
scene will play a movie that is inside the colour wheel's library as a
movie.
That probably doesn't make any sense. Okay, one lesson is called glazing
colour and it is a movie clip inside the library. one scene in the colour
wheel movie will load that movie clip.
The whole colour wheel and it's group of movies will load in as a single
movie within the main site. So within my main site will be a section called
colour theory. That will load in the colour theory set of movies. For that
section, it takes up the whole screen, so I will have a back to main menu
button, but there is no reason why you couldn't have a main menu showing at
all times without frames.
So basically you can use load movie to load main sections and then tell
target within the main sections to load movie clips. This I believe is but
only one way to do this.
Ken was asking the other day what we would like to see in his new book. I
want to see advanced concepts of how to construct sites in Flash. From what
I can see, there are numerous ways to skin a cat here, and there are bound
to be ways that are move efficient than others.
An example of this is when I created my sliders, They worked great, thanks
to Dave, but when I used them to actually tween the glazes,it started
choking and I used many stages for each button. I tried to turn the sliders
into tweens instead but then the movie wanted to play as a movie instad of
as tweened buttons. Then late last night, it came to me, that instead of
having each button sequence loaded into one frame, that I can create a movie
clip of a tweened slider, and then load that as a button into the main
movie. At least I think that will work.
I am just starting to play with this. It has only been a couple of weeks and
I feel like I am just on the brink of something wonderful. There seems to be
tons of hidden capabilities in this that are not so apparent when you first
use it, but I do believe that
So now, this got the wheels turning and I have a question...
How does one know whether they are better off creating movie clips to play
within a movie with a tell target command, or whether to load it in as a new
movie all together with a load movie command. It must have something to do
with a balance between load time and organising efficiently....??????
