http://www.infografica.com This company has a plugin for Max that I
ran into about a month ago. Look for the plugin called Cartoon Reves
under the products category of their website. This may or may not work
for what you are looking for in converting 3D to vector based.
Additionally I really don't know the export options you have after the
conversion has been made.

Did someone mention Rhino? :) Yes Rhino supports those file formats on
export. I exported a rhino model as an AI file and brought it into to
Flash 3.0 with no problems. It comes in as a serious of grouped
lines(which can easily be ungrouped). I guess that that is what you are
trying to do just import the lines and curves? I don't think it is
possible to create a "shader" version of the model and export as an AI
file. I believe you will need some type of converter program or plugin
like the one mentioned above.
To all those PC graphic people in the group if you haven't downloaded
Rhino 3D do so! It is still in beta(but release is coming up) so it is
fully functional FREE(right now) to use program. Find it at
www.rhino3d.com. It really makes modeling easy if you have ever
struggled through any of the other 3D modeling programs and it has a way
of exporting into about any of you favorite renderers. It also accepts
AI files to be imported. So you can build a quick shape cuve inside say
in like Freehand or Adobe, export it as an AI file and easily import
into Rhino. The path tools are also so sweet and easy to use you will be
wishing your favorite Drawing app carried some of the path drawing
features Rhino has.
