Hello, Flash Casey.  Is the text sitting on top of the state movieclip? 

If so, couldn't you just combine it with (include it in) the state

movieclip so that it changes color when the state changes color?  You

could just put an invisible button over each state to control the

actions and send the mc to whatever frame you need to.  Even if that

isn't at all what you're trying to do, it still sounds like you might

need to put the button inside the movieclip instead of working with

buttons and movieclips separately.  If not, then just ignore this!
