Howdy Roger. Your hour-to-3 breakthrough would be the exception for me.
I've designed 10 or 15 web sites that I'm pretty proud of, but have
never come up with a good design that fast. Two or three days of making
ugly stuff and feeling like I'll never find a good design is pretty much
the norm. Twice it's taken a week --you just can't summon up creativity
on demand. I know that doesn't help get you out of it, but you're not
alone anyway. What works? I don't know -- usually I'm eventually
sparked by something I see on TV (lots of very "Flash"-looking stuff on
tv these days, especially on kids channels) or at another website (I
have a huge folder of good --imo only, of course, that's what's
relevant-- Flash sites that I cruise through regularly for ideas) or
even by looking thru mags at Barnes & Noble. Or by making a mistake or
doing something unplanned in Photoshop and then thinking I actually like
that more than what I was trying to do. Lots of staring out the window
and thinking. Thorsten's idea of doing something completely different
is a good one too, but I guess you already knew that and all of the
above. ;-) Slog on! (and show us the masterpiece you eventually come up
with)

Helen
