Subject: Re: FLASH: help-flash in director 8-is this going to be a major headache?

An existing SWF piece, that was designed and tested for browsers, may work
well in other hosts, or it may have hitches in other hosts... it depends on
the content, the functionality chosen, the loads imposed, what else the
host is doing.

It's always better to get your feedback as you go along, to test across a
range of delivery devices during development. Switching to a new host after
it's "finished" is like suddenly having to satisfy an audience on 28.8k
modems, or suddenly being told the HTML page has to render identically on a
wireless handheld. A given piece of content may or may not be amenable to
an unexpected hosting environment.

(Generally, when you're going to Director, it's easier to use simpler SWFs
and put the interactivity at the top level... I've seen people stuff
bitmaps and sounds into SWFs which then get hosted by DCRs, and they're
wasting their performance here... "flatter hierarchies of simpler sprites"
is the strategy.)
