Yeah, I used a similar technique on http://www.webn.com/flash/walker.swf to
make the sound of the "zapper" on the far right pan and get louder/softer.
The sound is a separate MC which jumps frames based on the x-location of the
object on screen. It's far from perfect, though. You can really hear the
increments as the sound changes, and I have no idea how you would do this
with a song or speech. It would be really nice to be able to access the
volume as a property.

Actually, I saw a great trick that simply used one sound... but placed in
several keyframes of a movie clip. In each keyframe they used set the
"volume" by dragging that horizontal line to different levels. So if on the
first frame of the movie clip had the sound maxed, the second was a little
lower, next even lower, etc.

Then with a little bit of tell target you could go to different frames of
this movie clip.

I guess it never really turned the sound "up" above the max... but the
effect was the same.
