Subject: FLASH: Banner Ads and Redirects

Haven't seen this topic discussed here much but seems a popular selling
point from MM about how Flash Banner Ads create a greater click-through
rate. Of course, this is for very obvious reasons, but effectiveness is
still dependant upon how well the ad is designed and the message it relays.

I have several questions regarding the implementation of Flash Banner Ads at
places where I have less than full control of the HTML doc where the ad is
displayed.

For example: I have been building and implementing Banner Ads for one of my
clients on USAToday's site for several years now. With all the hype about
how Flash banners are better, this client wants to have Flash Banner ads
placed there now.

The ads are always drawn from my server.

Question-What is the BEST way to command control of my little piece of page
real estate where the ad will be drawn from my server. How do I-
Detect Flash - display a .swf ad or a substitute .gif ad (if the unique
visitor has no Flash).

Is there a way (that is analogous to pulling the ad from my server) I can
detect on my servers end and show the appropriate ad?

In other words:
Normally, USAToday inserts this code where my ad sits on the page-
<a href="http://www.MyClientsWebSite.com">
<img src="http://www.myserver.com/Myclientsad.gif>
</a>

What would the above be substituted with and how would I implement a detect
on MY servers end to show the appropriate ad back at the USAToday Page?

Sorry this is drawn out, but I am trying to be clear. Unless I have
overlooked something at MM site tech notes I find no help there for this. It
seems to be selling the idea flash ads more than providing implementation
procedures for this type of scenario.

TIA
JGL
