I've been using Cake Walk and Sound Forge's Vegas for a while for final
editing and love 'em both.

I don't know about the best, it is a pretty wide playing field. I use two
different programs. Magix Music Studio 2000 is a good program, but it has a
wide learning curve. It is very complex and if doesn't do much in the way of
effects like distortion or echoing, it is also pretty expensive. I also use
Acid Music 2.0. This is what I use the most. It was 70.00 but it is really
easy to use increating songs. I had created a song with in an hour of owning
the program. Anyway that is what I have found. I have heard that Cakewalk is
supposed to make a pretty good program, but I have never used it. Hope this
helps.
