I'm glad that you're already familiar with both Macs and PCs... that's a
big part of the learning curve for most of us.
One of the keys is that the audience is on both types of computers. When
we're testing a design we have to see it on a variety of platforms, simply
because the audience. A designer who has only one type of computer is at a
real disadvantage here... they won't know if something looks different
until the client calls!
(People coming from the print or video world can be particularly snagged by
this, because they're used to delivering to a single known format, whether
a single printer or video format or what. In interactive screen-based
design we're sending along *instructions*, not just descriptions, and the
final renderer is fully under the control of the audience. Radically
different... major learning curve here!)
That said, the main brunt of your work could be done on whichever box you
prefer... doesn't much matter to the authoring tools. Just network it
across so you can test the rendering of other, slower boxes as you go
along.
Matter of fact, you can give a good home to various castoff computers,
modems, and old browsers... keep those clunkers! If the client wants
something that will play on an early Pentium or PowerMac with a 28.8 modem,
then there's nothing like being able to test it yourself, as you go
along...!
