Hi Kalle,
We've had exactly the same problem. We are currently developing an app using
Flash for the interface and what we wanted to do on launch of the app was
blur the users desktop and sit the flash movie over the top. All easy enough
until you want to sit a flash movie above. Basically this functionality IS
within the ActiveX(OCX) control because as you rightly said, it can be done
within Internet Explorer, so my only conclusion is that the ability to NOT
paint the background has been hardcoded for IE within the OCX.
We got on to Macromedia Developer Network about it and they said simply
"...sorry, it can't be done".
We have since changed strategies by creating the swf file on the fly
straight out of C++ but i suspect this will not be a solution for what you
are trying to achieve.
One possible solution for you to look at (although very messy) would be to
try what Flash Jester have done with their transparent screensaver option -
basically requires IE4/5 - creates an IE window and puts the flash movie in
it.
Its worth posting your question on www.openswf.org because although the
topic has been raised before, its never (to my knowledge) been solved.
The more people who get on Macromedia back the better me thinks!!!
sorry i couldn't be more help, but if your 'C-hackers' do come up with a
solution please please let me know,
thanks
