Thanks John,
That uninstall routine (win) gave me the jitters and is why I posted the
question to find a simpler - hoping not to be sent to those tech-notes -
way.
Gregg Caines of n e o m e t r i x systems has a simple and effective way of
doing this that eliminates all that uninstall/install stuff.
rename the folder
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Macromed\Flash\
to something else. That way you can revert
it to its original name to get the plugin to
work again when your testing is done.
I simply renamed the folder Macromed to Macromed1 - and voila!
If you see that this is a good way of doing this(I do- I'm using this
technique now with effectiveness and no problems), I think it would make a
great tech note. Lot of us developers are paranoid of messing with windows
stuff in the area of uninstalling things.
My semantics were off a bit and I really wanted to disable(not uninstall)
the - the plug-in(active-x).
So many things to get straight with apps and plug-ins, oops, I mean active-x
controls . . . :)
Gregg's solution would be a good tech-note though - uh?

Well, literally, IE/Mac uses plugins, and you can move these from the
browser's "plugin" folder.
If you're instead trying to uninstall a system-level ActiveX Control for
IE/Win, then searching the technotes with keyword "uninstall" pulls up:
"How to Remove the Flash Player ActiveX Control"
http://www.macromedia.com/go/12727 (shortcut temporarily unavailable)
<http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/control_remove.htm>
If you're actually trying to test some type of detection routine, then it's
usually easier to use one that was already written and tested... there are
tons of these. I'm seeing more and more people that just present the
content with a "can't see it?" link.
If you're actually seeking to do *version* detection, then the new Flash
Deployment Kit and technotes (keyword "detect and version") can help:
