I think rather than the stack and setting visibility on and off, I'd use a
mc of the objects with the different colored instance on different labelled
frames, then your click will tell target the mc to go to the appropriate
frame (based on the variable, like you said)
Otherwise, I do think you are on the right track!
There are some examples and/or tutorials somewhere...can't remember now.
