Luke,
A full answer would need a bit more data from you but on first approach I
would say your problem derives from the good security measures incorporated
into Flash.
If a Flash movie could do what you want, i.e. when triggered locally from
the users computer send data to an outside host then I and a lot of other
people would be demanding that Macromedia correct it ASAP, and from past
experience they respond quickly to this type of request.
The behaviour under Windows is as expected, but I don't quite follow what
you say about the Mac. Are you saying that if a browser window is open you
get the data on the remote server ?
It would be nice if you could clarify this.
As far as a solution goes you will have to pass the data locally to a
program that can then act as a transport agent for you. This could be as
simple as having a browser window opened from the Flash movie and then have
the data submitted via this browser window. Proper use of scripting plus
FSCommands will allow this.
