If this is a pixel-based graphic, then break apart, select with Magic Wand,
and delete. This actually creates a clipping path.

Remember, though, that those fixed-resolution graphics may or may not be
suitable for a resolution-independent vector file... pixel-based graphics
are more often a seasoning than the main course.
