No you isn't so dumb at all, jgl (and neither is i).  Wish I'd had a BU

to put back, but I didn't.  Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions

offlist. Yes, I did reboot, and yes, I went to the page you suggested

and it didn't work.  So I gave up and went and pulled some weeds.  Then

I came back and read the support section on the download page and it

suggested a direct download, which wasn't really a direct download at

all -- just another link to the autoinstaller which didn't work.  But it

also suggested downloading and running the shockwave uninstaller, so I

did, and except for the fact that it wiped the plugin out of Netscape

too, it did the trick.  I now have Flash back in IE.  Boy, do I hate the

combination of IE and Flash, though.  (I know, I'm a minority, but in my

experience they're a painful combination...)
