I just poked around in my Eudora folder.  I created lots of mailboxes and I

make Eudora sort many of my incoming messages automatically. For every

mailbox I've created, there's a pair of files: *.toc and *.mbx.  The .toc

file has directory information that's pretty useless viewed with a text

editor.  But the .mbx has all the emails in that mailbox and they can

easily be read in NotePad.  Only thing is, they're all in one long file.

But it's easy to find the header for the start of each message.


So in 20 years you'll be able to read your mail in NotePad, at least for

Eudora and quite likely other programs, too. I recommend everyone stockpile

an old 486 with Win95 for just this purpose -- It'll be no less clumsy than

a trunk of old love letters stashed somewhere in the attic :-).
