Hi John,
Tell me more about this, though, because I'm currently frustrated with
audio in Director. We're developing a game in Director to accompany a bit
of Flash content. With the lowest Shockwave audio compression setting
being 32kbits/sec in Director, all of the sound effects in the game that
don't require hi fidelity are much bigger in file size than they would be
in Flash. I can't choose which ones get more bits and which get less as I
can in Flash with its individual export settings. And Director has to stop
and think a bit whenever it performs audio-blending whereas Flash mixes
many tracks together on the fly without so much as a single pause.
I understand that I can export my sound effects from SoundEdit at lower bit
rates (8, 16 or 24kbps) and link them to Director as external cast members,
but our Lingo programmer says that the response will be sluggish since they
sound files will have to stream off the hard disk or over the Web.
So why you recommending Director for audio? Or am I missing the point.
