Sounds like this may be something for one of the Director or Shockwave lists.


Briefly, you can use MP3-like audio compression right within Director. For

external assets you'd pre-process the file (convert in SoundEdit or another

app to "SWA"); for embedded audio you'd "Save As Shockwave". You can

control the general connection speed of such samples, so the audio can

stream.


Note that Director's "Castmember Info" dialog generally shows the

uncompressed size as the media is ready for display... it does not reflect

the final footprint on disk.


You also have cuepoints which can trigger events... you can mix audio with

other audio sources (even other devices, if the system supports it)... you

will have smaller filesize and higher audio fidelity.

You'd only want to stream long audio files... "twitch" files should be

embedded for faster responsiveness. More particularly, you'll get lowest

audio-adding latency across the range of PCs if you preload uncompressed

audio of identical rate'n'res (ie, all 16/22 or whatever). More info's in
