FLASH: alpha/bright & exchange symbols

Hi,


I've got a bit map that I want to fade into a black background. I can use either alpha or brightness to contro it. Which is less cpu intensive?


Also, if I alter it in a paint program, is there an easy way to switch it with the newer version of the symbol (ie. exchange cast members in Director)?
