Just an idea, if you know how it's going to format in the box, add a
variable to the top of the text file, eg.

Lines=20

then let that variable tell Flash whether to scroll or not,

if lines > 20.......etc.

Hope that helps.

++ Hi folks. I thought I should repost this as I didn't
++ explain the situation
++ very clearly in the last post.
++
++ I have some scrollable text within my movie. The text can
++ be loaded into
++ the text boxes dynamically. I have a scrollbar that is
++ needed to scroll the
++ longer blocks of text. I am trying to make a system that
++ knows how much
++ text is being loaded into the text box i.e, how many lines
++ of text. If the
++ text box can only display 20 lines at a time but the text
++ that is loaded
++ into it is 30 lines, it needs to be scrolled. I only want
++ the scrollbar
++ (which is a separate MC) to be visible if this is the case.
++ If there are
++ only 20 lines of text being loaded, there will be no need
++ for the scrollbar
++ and so it should stay invisible.
++
++ My question: How would I detect the number of lines of text
++ that have been
++ loaded? Is there a way to do this. So if "example1 txt"
++ equals >20 lines,
++ tell scrollbar MC to play.
++
++ Please help. Any input valued and treasured!
++
++ Thank you very much
